Farewell to two icons? Possible discontinuation of the Rolex "Pepsi" and "Sprite”

Lena Krüger

Rolex is best known for its precise mechanical watches, timeless design and high-quality materials. One of Rolex's most iconic watch lines is the GMT-Master II series. Two of the most popular models in this series are the Rolex "Pepsi" and the Rolex "Sprite". But rumour has it that these two models will be discontinued, and there is speculation that this will be officially announced at Watches & Wonders Messer 2023. But what is the truth of these rumours?

The "Pepsi" and the "Sprite"

The Rolex "Pepsi" and the Rolex "Sprite" are both part of the Rolex GMT-Master II collection. While the "Pepsi" has a red and blue bezel that is very reminiscent of the Pepsi logo, the "Sprite" has a green and black bezel that also alludes to the Sprite logo. Both models were first introduced in the 1950s and have since won a large number of fans and collectors around the world.

Two classics for eternity?

Rumour has it that Rolex is now planning to discontinue production of the "Pepsi" and the "Sprite". This has caused excitement and disappointment among fans and collectors of both models. Due to a possible discontinuation, both the "Pepsi" and the "Sprite" will increase in value and it will be more difficult to find them on the luxury watch market. However, it is important to emphasise that Rolex has not yet made an official announcement on the matter.

An unwritten future

If the rumours are true and Rolex does indeed cease production of the "Pepsi" and the "Sprite", this will undoubtedly have an impact on the luxury watch market. A discontinuation would possibly mean that prices for these models will rise, as they will become all the more interesting for collectors and watch enthusiasts.

So if you are interested in a "Pepsi" or "Sprite", you should act before it is too late. If Rolex discontinues these models, it would be more difficult to find and acquire them.

But whether there is truth in the rumours will only become clear at the Watches & Wonders fair this year, which will take place in Geneva from 27 March to 02 April.
